2008 Instructions for Corporate Captains
Recruit players for your corporate team
A team must have a minimum of two men and two women. Six to eight players are recommended, to allow for substitutions and vacations. Team rosters must consist of at least 50% employees or retirees of the participating company. A team must have at least two employees or retirees present to play at each match. Players must be 18 or over.
Choose the right division
The average NTRP rating of the top two men and top two women on a team may not be higher than the division in which they are playing. For example, if the top men and women on a team are three 3.5 players and one 4.0 player, the average is 3.625, and the team must compete at the 4.0 level, rather than the 3.5 level (always round up). For additional details, with examples, see Local Rules.
Choose a team name
Please include your company’s name in your team name. Although it’s not mandatory, we encourage you to pick inspiring team names, or names which have some connection with your company.
Register your team by May 16, 2008
Before you register your team, the team needs to be set up by the WTT League Director, Bob Williams. Bob will need to know your team name, the division you will be playing in (3.0, 3.5, 4.0, or 4.5), and the captain's name. Please contact Bob at 763-488-9986 or e-mail xxxxwilliams@playwtt.com (please replace xxxx with bobf).
Next, register and pay for your team on the World TeamTennis web site. On the menu at the top of this page, click on Register / Register Now. For detailed instructions, click Register / Instructions. After you have submitted the registration form, pay the $200 team registration fee (click on “Add to Cart”). Note that PayPal accepts either credit cards or direct debit from a financial account.
Finally, please contact Bob again, to let him know that you have registered and paid. Bob will set you up officially as captain. You'll now be notified by e-mail whenever a member of your team registers, and you’ll have online access to your team roster. You’ll also be able to enter match scores online when you are the home team, and to keep track of all your players’ statistics.
Register your players
Please register all your team members, using the same form you used to register your team. You may ask the team members to register themselves. Please do not have players make any payment through the World TeamTennis web site; they should pay member fees directly to you, as captain.
Collect team member fees and distribute information
The fee you charge team members will depend on how many players you have on your team. Your team is responsible for providing two cans of new balls at each home match, and for paying any court fees for home matches. Teams are strongly encouraged to have their companies provide financial support for the season.
Select your home courts
Each corporate team will select, reserve, and pay for its own home courts. Final schedules will not be available until after team registration is complete in mid-May, so you will not be able to finalize your court selection until then. If you need help in locating courts, please contact the Twin Cities WTT League Director, Bob Williams, at 763-488-9986, or e-mail xxxxwilliams@playwtt.com (please replace xxxx with bobf).
Manage matches
Make certain that you have at least two men and two women at every match, and that there are at least two employees present to play. Determine the lineup, coach the matches, and make substitutions. If you are the home team captain, submit the starting lineup to the visiting team captain before the start of each set, and fill out the official scorecard with the lineup information for both teams. Familiarize yourself and your team members with World TeamTennis playing rules, which are on the back of the WTT scorecard, and are summarized on the 2008 Season Announcement.
Provide tennis balls
If you are the home team captain, please provide two cans of new tennis balls for the match.
Record match scores
New this year: You’ll be able to enter match scores online when you are the home team, and to keep track of all your players’ statistics. Detailed instructions will be available before the season starts.
